Thankful for sunsets

On Thanksgiving Eve (can you really call it that?), I was standing on a hill in Marble Falls, TX with this lovely view of Lake LBJ below me.  We were en route to dinner, but the family was kind enough to humor me for a few minutes and find a spot to let me shoot this scene.  I could tell it was a pretty magical sunset that was coming together, and even without the tripod I thought it would be best to grab a set of brackets.

So, I did my best to hold my breath and anchor my arms tight to my body long enough for the brackets to fire.  I always prefer to do HDR with a tripod, since I don’t have arms like Arnold - but I’m no Calista Flockhart either.  I can be reasonably steady, assuming I haven’t had too much caffeine or too little sleep.  So, I gunned my brackets, and it worked out, thankfully.

Brackets that line up - that’s something to be thankful for!

Dodging pumpkins

I really had no idea what to call this photo.  It's an old Dodge, and there are a lot of pumpkins...so there you have it.  It reminded me of the rock band Smashing Pumpkins, which sounds like fun to do although these aren't my pumpkins so I would likely have been beaten and escorted off the property if I tried that.  Anyways, I love the Fall season and pumpkins represent it so well - add in a rusty old truck and you have something that I love to shoot!

And by the way, be sure and read my last post and enter the contest to win a 1TB rugged portable drive from my friends at ioSafe!!

Blonde in a red dress

I haven't posted a floral in ages, so thought I would share this one today.  Seems like Spring is getting close!

Bathed in ritual mist

I got up on Thanksgiving morning at a place up in the Texas hill country to find this wonderful light fog hanging all around.  I quickly grabbed my gear and sprinted to this little creek that runs behind the property.  I love fog, though we rarely get any - so when I get the chance to shoot some I get a little fired up!

Built Ford tough

Old tractors are awesome.  They are like trains - I have to take a closer look.  My Grandfather had one that we used to ride around on when we were kids - so much fun, and such great memories.  I came across this one out in Marble Falls, TX and just had to get a quick snap!  It was pretty crowded, with kids all over it, so I just went in for a tight focused shot.  Plus the engine and that wheel cap were interesting looking.
