Soldiers and Sailors

I took a trip to Indianapolis not too long ago, and was happy to return there for the first time in over a decade.  It’s a nice town.  I like it.  There are a lot of interesting places to shoot there, like Monument Circle for example.  It’s a huge circle in the center of town and in the middle of it sits this wondrous (and huge!) monument and fountain.  From the web:

The Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument is a 284 ft 6 in tall neoclassical monument in the center of Indianapolis, Indiana that was designed by German architect Bruno Schmitz and completed in 1901.  The monument was erected to honor Hoosiers who were veterans of the American Revolution, territorial conflicts that partially led up to the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, the US Civil War, and the Spanish American War.

So, I took lots of shots from various spots, and could never get it all in one view, so I opted to piece it up and HDR it from a few different angles.  I will drop those in sometimes and hope you enjoy them!  Thanks for stopping by!

Late arrival

I like shooting light trail shots - something about how the vehicle blurs out is just cool to me.  In this case, I did the same thing with an airplane.  I had never seen a shot like this before, though I haven't really looked for one.  I happened to look out my hotel window in San Diego one evening and found that I had a decent view of a plane's arrival.  I set up and tried a few shots that did not work.  Eventually I did a nice long exposure - 30 seconds in this case, if I remember correctly - and here you go!  It's always fun to experiment and try new things!

Night in San Francisco

Just a simple long exposure.  I got this while walking around downtown San Francisco one evening.  I like all the reflected lights and the colors.  The clock tower off to the left is The Ferry Building, which I have posted several photos of.  The entire area downtown is just so great for photography.  I look forward to heading back out there soon!

Congress Avenue light trails

I was on a photowalk with a bunch of the gang here in Austin, and at some point we wound up on Congress Avenue, which is sort of the main drag through the middle of downtown.  There was a bus coming, so I lined up and hoped I framed it right to catch the light trails...

Welcome to San Francisco

I just love The Ferry Building in San Francisco.  It’s such a cool place and at night with that big red neon sign all lit up, it’s like a huge welcome sign to the city.  As I have mentioned previously, my hotel is just a short stroll away, so as a result I have a lot of shots of this wonderful structure, which is ok by me.  In many respects it is more fun to take shots of new places and new things when you travel - I certainly have that addiction going on, and always get excited before I am off to the next place - but I make an exception for The Ferry Building when I am in San Fran.  I have taken shots of it from all sorts of angles, and always enjoy looking at them, whether they are post-worthy or not.  And, next time I am in San Francisco, you can bet my memory card will come home with more shots of this place.  And more than likely, they will eventually make their way here.  Hope you don’t mind humoring me.
